I went back to my book and did some more reading. My wife brought her book along and napped in between. We took another walk after a few hours and then came back to the beach and ate a little more. The beach is a place to just chill so if this is something you cannot do, it probably is not for you. I do admit if swimming were more comfortable, it would make the beach experience here a little better. If you are a biker, I suggest you bring your bike and make it part of your day. If you are a runner or roller bladder, same thing. You could come here, get your run in, take a semi-shower at one of the beach showers and then chill on the beach for the day. Believe me, not a bad way to spend the day.
After three or four hours of chilling out, reading, and taking walks we decided to grab a iced coffee. There is a Tulley's not far from the beach. You can get a normal iced coffee for $2.50 at the time of this writing. Warning, do not go cold brew unless you want to add a couple bucks. It is stronger but you will pay for it. After drinking our coffee, we decided to get the exercise and walked the 2 miles or so back to the ferry and caught it back to the docks in downtown. I love Alki Beach and recommend it to anyone for a great cheap day at the beach. Bring a lunch and enjoy the sun during the summer. I have some tips for how to enjoy it in the winter, but I will wait until that time to give them.
What have I missed? We did not eat in Alki, but are there some cheap spots to get some food or coffee that I missed? Are there some other free or cheap options for ways to enjoy this area?
